Okay so as you all know I am quite possibly one of the most hardcore Yankee fans in the world today. November 4, 2001 is still a day I think about at least once a week. I have a million fafillion tickets to Yankee games this year, I watch all the games, yada, yada, yada. In lieu of all of this, today while I was walking down the street, I was jamming out to my ipod and I decided to put it on shuffle. As we all know "shuffle" is always a dangerous proposition, as it always plays songs on your ipod that you are a little embarrassed about, and wish you had deleted long ago. Well the first song that came on my ipod was "Tessie" by the Dropkick Murphys. While I was listening to the song I had a stunning moment of self realization, although I love my baseball team, I have the mentality and attitude that encompasses the Boston Red Sox.
I know this may sound strange but I relish the opportunity to be the underdog, and have the chance of coming through. I would come from behind, and lose dramatically or pull off an unthinkable upset, rather than play with the lead. Now although this analogy is most appropriate when considering my participation in sports, it also effervesces into all aspects of my life. I always felt in work and in school that I produced results in a not traditional way, and didn't follow common teaching. I also always secretly loved rallying for a good grade when I got off to a poor start, rather than hanging on at the end. On 2 separate occasions in my collegiate career I pulled off a 100% on a final to allow me to get an A by the skin of my teeth. I would rather scrap together a last minute victory than worry about holding on, and I feel that is why I am so god damn eccentric. I wouldn't trade this attribute for anything in the world though
Anyways this song reminded me of my fighting spirit and I feel the uber cool confidence and corporate nature in which the Yankees go about their business is 180 degrees from my personality, but is a reason why I love them. It sounds retarded but watching them balances me out in a strange way. Anyways you have just read my most self reflective piece that I have written in a while! Wahoo!!!! No drinking stories or debauchery!!! Are you disappointed?
